Welcome

The future of Afghanistan depends on its people. It depends on the capacity of its people to improve their own lives, the well-being of their communities, and the development of the nation. Human Resource development is thus the cornerstone of national development plans. Education is a prerequisite both for economic development and an essential building block in national reconciliation and peace-building efforts. Afghanistan’s citizens have suffered for long time, an effective education service can really build a better future. Unless we build the human capital which provides opportunities for all Afghans to participate in the rebuilding of their society and economy, Afghanistan cannot be transformed from the current dependency to a developed and prosperous society. This can only be overcome by ensuring access to quality education for all Afghan girls and boys and increasing the reach of technical and vocational education to the youth of the country.

I would like to express thanks to UNESCO and ISESCO organizations for the valuable support they have been providing for the expansion and development of education, science and preservation of cultural heritage in Afghanistan. UNESCO’s technical and financial assistance in promoting literacy and TEVET education in Afghanistan is remarkable.

Despite remarkable achievements, education sector of Afghanistan is faced with a number of immense challenges i.e our EFA agenda still remains unfinished, more than fifty percent of our teachers are lacking skills and competencies, around 50% of our schools do not have buildings, and due to insecurity some of our schools and institutions are closed by the insurgents. The Ministry of Education of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is committed and determined to address the mentioned challenges and would like to requests its development partners for the continuation of their support.

The leadership of the Ministry of Education of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan strongly supports the Afghan National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO to achieve its vision and objectives.
